Belly Shot: 10 weeks and 2 days

Posted by Greg on November 10th, 2008 with tags: ,

Here’s a shot of Yenari today at 10 weeks and 2 days

Yenari’s a bit upset because I took this after dinner at the peak of the belly instead of in the morning…but, it’s only getting bigger from here, so maybe the next one will just look like a smaller difference.  Yenari, like her non-pregnant former self, has been a great eater and just about all symtoms of nausea are gone.   I usually have quite an appetite myself and can keep up with Yenari, but these days she’s in another league – it’s not even a competition anymore.  Her top fantasy right now is to go on a cruise somewhere…anywhere…as long as its non-stop all you can eat meals!

Sewing

Posted by Greg on November 5th, 2008 with tags: , , ,

Yenari is off of work for a few weeks because of her back problem – she’s been hurt since August and doing modified duty at the hospital, but now they don’t have any work for her to do (she finished it all!) so she’s left to her own devices…which means…the Asian sewing sweatshop is in business!

Yenari is all about recycling and making the most of all of the left over fabrics she has from previous projects.  She found a tiny bit of racing car fabric that was left over from a pair of pajamas she made for Duncan for his birthday last year.  It’s a little boy-like, but she decided to go for it anyway and make a bib – here’s a photo:

For the backing, she stuck with the leftover theme and used an old dress shirt of mine that had a big hole in the elbow and was beyond repair (believe me, she tried repairing it many times).  The shirt, a Brooks Brothers non-iron shirt, was a gift to me from Yenari and was one of my favorites.  Here’s a photo of the back, and also of the original shirt.

For the ultimate in leftover fabric projects, I present the following: a baby blanket Yenari made (months before our wedding, even) out of a huge assortment of leftover pajama fabrics from years worth of presents.

Luckily the Pjs were a mix between blues and pinks, so the blanket should be good whether it’s a boy or a girl!  The great experimenter Yenari didn’t know how to do quilting – this was a total improvisation based on about 10 minutes of watching quilting videos on YouTube (can you imagine more boring videos than quilting videos?).  Yenari’s favorite quilting video would definitely have to be Quilting with Buck – it’s a winner.

Weekend in Chicago

Posted by Greg on November 3rd, 2008 with tags: , , ,

This past weekend Yenari and I went to visit my dad in Chicago.  We were lucky enough to have excellent weather and had a great time seeing the sights, eating the eats, meeting up with my good friend Michael, and hanging out.  Here are a couple photos from the weekend…

This was Yenari’s first time in Chicago and she absolutely loved it.  Some of that love was definitely directed at the hot fudge sundaes at the Ghirardelli shop right in front of my dad’s apartment.  She was also pretty pumped about the good restaurants – there was even a Korean restaurant that met her high standards.  My dad’s apartment has a great view of the Chicago skyline and the lake and when she saw it, Yenari seemed ready to move to Chicago!  When she learned that the building across the street was actually a women’s hospital, she started salivating over the super short commute.  We have no plans to move now, but Chicago is definitely on Yenari’s mind…
